Go Green to Get Out of Debt
57Get out of debt going green
The problem with being in debt is that there are no easy ways out. Your expenses seem to escalate and even basic household necessities become hard to afford. The thing about being green is that while there is a lot of focus put upon investing in the future there is also a lot of effort put into trying to identify areas where we currently waste resources.
We all waste resources. This effects the environment because everything that is not used up has taken energy to produce. Energy that could have been better used in producing something else is sat rotting in a landfill site or burned into the atmosphere. Wasting resources equates to wasting money.
Hopefully this guide can show you a few easy ways of saving some money that can help you get out of debt, or just give you a little more cash in your pocket, while at the same time being environmentally friendly.
Manage debt - go green!
1 Use white vinegar as an anti-bacterial spray. Unbelievably it kills 99% of germs (sounds like a lot of advertising slogans doesn’t it?). As it is a natural product it is better for the environment and is cheaper than your average branded anti-bacterial spray. Fill an empty spray bottle up with 5% vinegar (you get it in the supermarket) and keep it in your kitchen.
2 Learn how to sow. When there is a hole in your jeans/jacket/socks then that’s them done right? Your Grandmother would feint if she saw the wasting of clothing that goes on these days. Learning how to make basic repairs to clothes will save you lots of cash in the long-term.
3 Switch off stand-by. Does it really benefit you to keep things on stand-by? Everyone thinks about TVs when this is mentioned, but what about printers? If you only use yours once in a while make sure it is switched off also.
4 Filter your water. Don’t bother buying bottles of water, just buy a filter and fill up from the tap. Leave it in the fridge overnight and there is no difference in flavour. This means that there are fewer plastic bottles being produced and needing to be recycled.
Save money and save the planet!
5 Check the free websites. More and more people want to give their things that they don’t want away for free rather than throw it in the trash. Furniture especially is easy to find this way.
6 Turn down the heat on your thermostat. This will save you serious cash. You can just wear a jumper can’t you?
7 Stick a brick in you toilet cistern. This cuts the amount of water you are charged for every time you flush.
8 Reduce the temperature that you wash clothes at and you burn less electricity, simple.
9 Unplug your cell phone charger once you have finished charging. Have you not noticed that it is boiling hot even when it isn’t connected? More electricity wasted.
10 Switch the lights off when you are not in a room. Who needs to see in there, the invisible man?
None of these measures will get you out of debt by themselves, but if you take them seriously then you will notice a difference in your household bills.
